Let's take care of the sea

Embrace the Sea of Mijas

Cala Mijas Festival joins forces with the NGO Equilibrio Marino to take care of the most biodiverse marine area in Europe.

What is Embrace the Sea of Mijas?

Cala Mijas Festival is held very close to the Special Area of Conservation (SAC) Calahonda, a unique marine enclave located in Europe. As a festival committed to the 2030 Agenda, we’ve joined forces with the environmental association Equilibrio Marino to recover and conserve the sea of Mijas.

To do so, and in addition to the sustainable measures we usually carry out (returnable cups, waste management, etc.), we are committing ourselves to the environment by supporting the implementation of effective environmental actions and by building a community that is aware and seeks a more cared-for Costa del Sol.

What are we going to do?

Marine environmental study

First, we will carry out a study to discover the state of the sea and its ecosystems. This will include dives to inspect the area, analyze the severity of environmental impacts, observe the status of species, and more. This study will be filmed and photographed and available to the public.

Beach and seabed clean-up

We will carry out measures to collect both underwater and beach waste in order to leave the area better than we found it. If you’d like to help us by participating in the clean-up while you’re enjoying the beach, we can get it done in less time and the sea will thank you.

Awareness campaign

Parallel to the clean-up measures, we will launch awareness messages which show the current environment so that we can work together toward a sea that is cleaner and full of life.

How can you pitch in?

Some recommendations that you follow

Avoid plastic, use public transport or share cars, do not leave cigarette butts or other waste on the beach, and recycle as much as possible.

Donate to Equilibrio Marino

Our commitment is not limited to the days of the festival—we want to continue throughout the years. For this, we need support. If you’d like to help, you can make a donation here.
