Cala Mijas returns, the endless summer returns: The Strokes, Florence + The Machine and Arcade Fire, the first confirmed bands for the festival

The international festival returns to the Costa del Sol in 2023 and will be held on August 31, and September 1 and 2 in Sonora Mijas

Foals, Amyl & The Sniffers, Delaporte, The Blaze, Cupido and Amaia join the first confirmed talent for the second edition of the festival

Endless summer

The last glints of the September sun, the calm of the last sunsets, the euphoria of the last summer dances, the excitement of the possibilities that await those last moments: this defines Cala Mijas. The festival serves as a soundtrack for these last moments of the summer for the second consecutive year, announcing the first wave of artists that will form the 2023 lineup and generate endless memories.

Endless talent

Three big names head the line-up; New York kings of rock, The Strokes, the electrifying band led by Florence Welch, Florence + The Machine, and the most contemporary Canadian indie band Arcade Fire. Adding their enthusiastic hedonism the British Foals will also be joining, as well as the bubbling electro pop freshness of Metronomy. The frenetic rock of Amyl and The Sniffers will explode in Sonora Mijas alongside the undeniable French producers The Blaze with their recently released single “DREAMER”.

The local talent will be led by the always energetic and dancing Delaporte, the versatile talent of Amaia, the fusion of Pimp Flaco and Solo Astra Cupido with their recent album, the ironic pop of Cariño and the electronic Galician Baiuca. As always, the local representation is relevant in the line-up with the innovation and musical tradition of Judeline and the power pop of the Malaga trio Ballena.

Fourteen first names that make up the frontlines of the second edition of the international festival Cala Mijas who, after an explosive debut edition, are ready to confirm that second parts are great.

Endless reasons

Cala Mijas will once again return to the coastal town of Mijas—a province of Malaga—an exceptional tourist destination for its famous beaches and gastronomic offer. Building a community that is aware of and committed to the care and conservation of the Costa del Sol is a priority for the festival. Sonora Mijas will return with significant improvements to its 120,000 square meters. It will also ensure the circular economy through km0 hiring and through the reuse of materials and waste management, as well as continue to focus on sustainable mobility via the use of shuttle buses to facilitate access and exit of attendees. What’s more, it will continue its partnerships with various organizations such as Renta Básica, promoting the development of people at risk of exclusion; the NGO Equilibrio Marino, to continue the project Embrace the Sea of Mijas(Abraza el mar de Mijas)which seeks to enhance and recover SAC Calahonda (Special Area of Conservation) on the Mijas coastline; and the Mijas Town Hall itself to promote the recruitment of local staff through its employment exchange. At the same time, it will again have services such as camping and glamping, as well as public parking lots open to festival attendees.

Endless memories

With more than 100,000 people from over 50 countries, a new and conditioned enclosure for the occasion, the fulfillment of 15 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, a Premios Fest award for “Newcomer Festival” and currently nominated for Best Major Festival” of the European Festival Awards; Cala Mijas took place for the first time just 75 days ago, and none of what happened would have been possible without the invaluable support of all the people who attended. All this encourages the Organization to continue working on Cala Mijas 2023, an event sure to provide a complete, sustainable, original, and innovative musical experience.
