The enhancement of the environmental wealth of the Mijas coastline, sustainability and climate change are among the main aspects to be addressed within the project for the recovery of the Calahonda ZEC ‘Abraza el Mar de Mijas’ (Embrace the Mijas Sea).
Mar de Mijas’ under this name will be held this Thursday 6th of July the
July the awareness and marine clean up days will be held during the whole afternoon in the area of Torre de Calahonda.
The initiative, included in the Calahonda ZEC recovery project ‘Abraza el Mar de Mijas’ (Embrace the Sea of Mijas), aims to highlight the environmental wealth of the Mijas coastline. The organisation Equilibrio Marino, in collaboration with Mijas Town Council, the Cala Mijas festival, the Regional Government of Andalusia and other organisations, is offering a wide range of activities which will include the screening of several documentaries, exhibitions on climate emergency and the coastline in Andalusia, a beach clean-up and snorkelling activity, as well as workshops on climate change and sustainability.
The municipality thus continues to support measures to conserve the environmental wealth of this unique marine enclave in Europe. An initiative to which the Cala Mijas festival is adhered as a festival committed to the 2030 Agenda, and which is added to the sustainable measures carried out by the festival such as the use of returnable cups or waste management, among others, all based on the commitment of the organisation with the implementation of effective environmental actions that allow to build an aware community that seeks a more caring Costa del Sol. In this sense, and as Equilibrio Marino reminds us, the Calahonda Special Area of Conservation is a unique enclave that concentrates the greatest marine biodiversity in Europe with emblematic Atlantic and Mediterranean species. This area, declared in 2015 by the European Commission, is currently subject to various environmental impacts, hence the need to implement conservation measures focused on its recovery and enhancement that can provide greater protection for the area.
“Last Tour, as promoter of the Cala Mijas festival and BCorp company, continues this second edition committed to environmental and social actions that seek social transformation through culture and live music,” says Paloma Orte, Last Tour’s Sustainability Director. “The aim is to continue working in alliance with institutions, third sector entities and private companies to offer the public a socially and environmentally committed festival”.
The Cala Mijas festival joins Equilibrio Marino and Mijas Town Hall in inviting residents and visitors to join this initiative and learn more about the environmental richness of the area.
